2007 NANFA National Convention, Clarion Hotel, Greensboro, NC, June 7-10You are invited to attend the 2007 NANFA Convention at the Clarion Hotel in Greensboro, North Carolina. NANFA is a mix of amateur and professional biologists, educators, nature lovers, aquarium hobbyists, anglers, and others who love streams, ponds, marshes, and critters that live in water. The NANFA Convention is a great way to meet other native fish enthusiasts, and learn about aquatic habitats, fish ID and photography, collecting and captive breeding, conservation and habitat restoration, aquatic plants and invertebrates, and many other topics. SCHEDULE Thursday, June 7 (afternoon and evening)
Meet new fishy friends and get familiar with NANFA activities and NC Fishes and Habitats. Live fish display tanks, NC aquatic habitat info, Fish ID and aquarium care handouts, and educational exhibits showcasing NANFA's activities and programs will be on display through the weekend. We're also planning an informal "Fish Photography Tips" workshop Thursday night, if you want to bring your camera or get advice on what kind of camera to buy. We'll also have info on historical sites, museums, parks, hiking, shopping, and other activities for over-fished family members. Friday, June 8
The NANFA Benefit Auction of collecting gear, fish books, art, aquarium supplies, and other goodies will follow the Speaker Program. The Dinner Banquet at Clarion Hotel will be followed by an after-dinner program and video. Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10
North Carolina has 11 Atlantic Slope river basins and 6 Ohio/Tennesse River basins with approximately 230 freshwater fish species. Each day we'll have five or six field trips to choose from in the Mountains, Piedmont, Sandhills, and Coastal Plain physiographic regions. We will seine and photograph fish, invertebrates, and plants in the Dan-Roanoke, Neuse, Cape Fear, Lumber, Lake Waccamaw, Yadkin-PeeDee, Catawba, Broad, Toe-Nolichucky, Watauga, and New-Kanawha River basins. Bring a cooler or Styrofoam fish box if you want to take fish home. We'll have extra tanks with cycled filters set up at the hotel for holding and observing fish until Sunday. Each field trip leader will have a Scientific Fish Collecting Permit, so you will not need an individual fishing license unless you're also planning to go collecting on your own. In that case, a 10-day visitor license is available for $5 (NC resident) or $10 (non-resident) at local bait shops or online.
